Simon VS. The Homosapiens Agenda

SIMON VS THE HOMOSAPIENS AGENDA

Simon  VS The Homosapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli is a book that I cannot put down! You know that feeling when you want to know what happens next...chapter by chapter...this is that kind of book! I am curious to know what will happen to Simon's life as he bravely admitted that he is gay. Also, I just wish that people would be more accepting in reality just like in this book. Plus, there are a lot of good lines in this book.

Summary From The Book:

Sixteen year old and not-so-openly gay Simon Spier prefers to save his drama for the school musical. But when an emails falls into the wrong hands, his secret is at risk of being thrust into the spotlight. Now  Simon is actually being blackmailed: If he doesn't play wingman for class clown Martin, his sexual identity will become everyone's business. Worse, the privacy of Blue, the pen name of the boy he's been emailing with, will be jeopardized.

With some messy dynamics emerging in his once tight-knit group of friends and his email correspondence with Blue growing more flirtatious every day. Simon's junior year has suddenly gotten all kinds of complicated. Now change-averse Simon has to find a way to step out of his comfort zone before he's pushed out - without alienating his friends, compromising himself, or fumbling a shot at happiness with the most confusing, adorable guy he's never with the most.

My Thoughts:

The version that I bought has a special edition containing Simon and Blue's first exchanges of emails. :)

What Light's summary in the book is already the whole story just without the details, climax, and the ending. I find this romance book suitable for young adults.

The book's point of view is the character Sierra. Its front cover of a female in a winter wear is definitely the character Sierra. There are just enough characters to take note of and that matters, basically just Caleb and Sierra's family and friends.

My favorite character of the story would be Caleb, I find it realistic that he suffers from a mistake and that every thing that he does on his life is like a redemption that will never be enough. As a person, mistakes are unavoidable and often times we will find ourselves in his place. Just like me, it happens to me sometimes, I blame myself and I find ways to make it all better.

The scene that I like the most is when they had their first long conversation with a hot chocolate and a candy cane. I thought, should I try making my hot chocolate sweet with candy cane? Let us find out this Christmas season!

What do you think the title What light represents? I cannot exactly pinpoint on why the title is "What Light" but somehow, in my opinion, Sierra represents as something bright that came into Caleb's life. A hope for redemption that he was looking for.

Basically, the book is sweet and perfect for light reading. Something that you do not want to stress over with. No need to over-think.

My Favorite Line/s:

"It's why I stopped telling most people the truth. They're going to believe what they believe, and I'm tired of explaining."

Rating: 5/5 because I got hooked, no boring parts for me.

Recommendation: To those who wants to read something light and romantic.

INTRODUCTION TO THE INTRODUCTION

"The concept of success is really weird. Is success building a beloved brand and business? Or is it how you handle yourself when it gets hard? Is success being in the right place at the right time - with the right voice, skill set, team, and drive to cobble it all together? Or is success figuring out how to tame the behemoth once it sprouts legs and sharp teeth?"

"The older I get, the less confident I become. There's simply more to lose."

"Sometimes people want to drag you into the past, are unwilling to change, and stand in judgment of the decisions you make when they have even less information than you do."

"But here's the thing: Everyone, at the end of the day, really needs to be led."

"Success is about playing to your strengths."

"There's a sense of pride that you can feel when you're closer to the results of your work. That's the beauty of a small business."

"You shouldn't idolize anyone. And I'm telling you again, don't idolize me. I don't know shit. And neither do your parents. But if I can pull any of this off, so can you. Take that and run with it."

THE CHRONOLOGY OF A #GIRLBOSS

"I never intended to be a role model, but there are parts of my story, and the lessons I've learned from it, that I want to share."

"Don't ever grow up,
Don't become a bore.
Don't ever let the man get to you."

CHAPTER 1 SO YOU WANT TO BE A #GIRLBOSS

"Life is short. Don't be lazy."

"A #Girlboss is someone who's in charge of her own life. She gets what she wants because she works for it. As a #Girlboss, you take control and accept responsibility. You're a fighter - you know when to throw punches and when to roll with them. Sometimes you break the rules, sometimes you follow them, but always, on your own terms. You know where you're going, but can't do it without having some fun along the way. You value honesty over perfection. You ask questions. You take your life seriously, but you don't take yourself too seriously. You're going to take over the world, and change it in the process. You're a badass." - page 11

"Abandon anything about your life and habits that might be holding you back. Learn to create your own opportunities. Know that there is no finish line; fortune favors action. Race balls-out toward the extraordinary life that you've always dreamed of, or still haven't had time to dream up. And prepare to have a hell of a lot of fun along the way." - page 15

"For me to fully appreciate thing I must first reject them." - page 16

"You don't have to choose between smart and sexy. You can have both. You are both." - page 17

"You don't get taken seriously by asking someone to take you seriously. You've got to show up and own it. If this is a man's world, who cares? I'm still really glad to be in a girl in it." - page 17

"You combine hard work, creativity, and self-determination, and things start to happen." - page 17

"When you believe in yourself, other people will believe in you too." - page 18

CHAPTER 2 HOW I BECAME A GIRLBOSS

"There are secret opportunities hidden inside every failure."

CHAPTER 3 SHITTY JOBS SAVED MY LIFE

"When you have an attention span the length of an eyelash, it doesn't take long to learn what you like and what you don't." - page 62

"What I know now is that nothing is universally boring - what's boring to you could be totally engaging to someone else. If you're bored and hating it, it's a big sign that you've most likely just in the wrong place." - page 70

"I want what I want when and where I want it." -page 75

"If you suck at school, don't let let it kill your spirit. It does not mean that you are stupid or worthless, or that you are never going to succeed at anything. It just means that your talents lie elsewhere, so take the opportunity to seek out what you are good at, and find a place where you can flourish. Once you do, you're going to kill it." - page 81

CHAPTER 4 SHOPLIFTING (AND HITCHHIKING) SAVED MY LIFE

CHAPTER 5 MONEY LOOKS BETTER IN THE BANK THAN ON YOUR FEET

"Money spells freedom." - page 119

"If you learn to control your finances, you won't find yourself stuck in jobs, places or relationships that you hate just because you can't afford to go elsewhere." - page 120

"Learning how to manage your money is one of the most important things you'll ever do. Being in a good spot financially can open up so many doors. Being in a bad spot can slam them in your face. And being broke gets old, so start making smart decisions now to avoid paying for stupid ones later." - page 120

"You don't get what you don't ask for." - page 131

"If you're frustrated because you're not getting what you want, stop for a second. Have you actually flat-out asked for it? If you haven't, stop complaining." - page 131

"Sometimes it pays to spend a little more than you bargained for on real quality." - page 133

"Spend money because it's an investment in your own well-being, not because you're bored and have nothing else to do." - page 133

"The common way is not always the best way." - page 134

CHAPTER 6 HOCUS-POCUS: THE POWER OF MAGICAL THINKING

"You get back what you put out, so you might as well think positively, focus on visualizing what you want instead of getting distracted by what you don't want, and send the universe your good intentions so that it can send them right back." - page 140

"Each time you make a good decision or do something nice or take care of yourself, each time you show up to work and work hard and do your best at everything, you can do, you've been plating seeds for a life that you can only hope will grow beyond your wildest dreams. Take care of little things - even the little things that you hate - and treat them as promises to your own future." - page 142

"Keep reminding yourself over and over that this is what you want, and you'll soon find that the more you know what you want, the less you're willing to put up with what you don't." - page 145

"One of the best things about life - a reason not to go blindly after one goal and one goal only - is that sometimes it will take you to something that is way cooler than anything you would have consciously set out to do in the first place." - page 145

"While I truly believe that you must have intentions to fulfill your dreams, I also think you have to leave room for the universe to have its way and play around a bit." - page 146

"If something's not working out, but you keep hammering at it in the exact same way, go after something else, for a while. That's not giving up, that's just letting the universe have its way." - page 147

"When you think about people, you give them power." - page 148

"I don't want to spend time thinking about things that I don't want to have a place in my life. You have to kick people out of your head as forcefully as you'd kick someone out of your house if you didn't want them to be there." - page 151

"Focus on the positive things in your life and you'll be shocked at how many more positive things start happening. But before you start to think you just got lucky, remember that it's magic, and you made it yourself." - page 152

"I'll admit that sometimes feeling bad feels good." - page 162

"No matter where you are in life, you'll save a lot of time by not worrying too much about what other people think about you. The earlier in your life that you can learn that, the easier the rest of it will be. You is who you is, so get used to it." - page 168

"Own up to your mistakes and apologize for them. Everyone will make a mistake at some point, and the sooner you can admit where you went wrong, the sooner you can start to fix it." - page 196

"Being mean won't make you cool, being rich won't make you cool, and having the right clothes, while it may help won't make you cool. It's cool to be kind. It's cool to be weird. It's cool to be honest and to be secure with yourself." - page 270

"Confidence is more attractive than anything you could put on your body." - page 273

CHAPTER 11 THE CHANCES

"Someone has to succeed, so it might as well be you." - page 284

"You create the world, blink by blink. It is entirely yours to discover and yours to create." - page 285

"So when life hits you with something unexpected, you have to be prepared to hit right back - and leave your own smear in the process." - page 286

"Compete with yourself, not with others. Judge yourself on what is your personal best and you'll accomplish more than you could ever have imagine. Life stops for no one, so keep moving. Stay awake and stay alive. There's no Auto Correct in life - think before texting the universe. Breaking the rules just for fun is too easy - the real challenge lies in perfecting the art of knowing which rules to accept and which to rewrite. The more you experiment, take risks, and make mistakes, the better you'll know yourself, the better you'll know the world, and the more focused you'll be." - page 287

"And once you've found success, don't stop." - page 287

Summary From The Book:

By age twenty-two, Sophia Amoruso was broke, directionless, and checking IDs in the lobby of an art school for cash. It was in that lobby that Sophia decided to start selling vintage clothes on eBay.

Flash forward ten years to today, and she's the founder and executive chairman of Nasty Gal, a $250-million-plus fashion retailer with more than 400 employees. Sophia was never a typical CEO, and she's written #GIRLBOSS for other girls like her: outsiders (and insiders) seeking a unique path to success, even when that path is lined with naysayers.

My Thoughts:

When I read the summary of the book, I thought I would be reading her whole story like in the show but instead this book was all about her tips in life as guided by her experience.

The book's point of view is all from the author herself, Sophia Amoruso. The front cover is interesting to look at, that is the reason why I bought it.

No characters to take note of as Sophia just talks about her life experiences. There are no need for favorite characters.

There are point that I got bored from the book but I love all the tips in life that she shared. It is truly inspiring and the reason why I gave it a high rating.

My Favorite Line/s:

"Life stops for non one, so keep moving."

Rating: 5/5 because of the beautiful lines and tips that I got from the book.

Recommendation: To others, this book is not as appealing because there are certain parts that it is dragging but I simply love the lines included. So if you are looking for inspirational quotes, this book is a good one.
